Personal Profile: Professor Oktay Seymen is a Consultant Physiologist at the Department of Physiology, Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty at the University of Istanbul. He is also a Member of The American Physiological Society, The Society of Turkish Physiological Sciences and The International Free Radical Society. He has been a guest lecturer and visiting professor to a number of conferences and lectures in Turkey. He was a charter member of the ethical committee of experimental animals at Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty. He was the Editor of Cerrahpasa Journal of Medicine (2004 -2006). He is vice president of Dept. of Basic Medical Sciences of Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty. He is founder of Visual evoked potential recording laboratory at Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty.

Research Interests: Professor Seymen's research interests include medical interventional strategies in animal models of oxidant / antioxidant status of a variety of diseases, new markers in some patho-physiological conditions, and the development and use of novel technologies in electrophysiology and evoked potentials. He has published widely in these and other areas related to physiology and patho-physiological conditions. This work is based on long term experimental process. Some of these areas of research have involved extensive collaboration with the Departments of Biochemistry and Histopathology as well as other physiology institutes in Europe and the United States of America.
